A tour of Hyatt Hotels

After many years of wallowing around in the mire of other programs, I have become a fully-fledged Hyatt enthusiast.  I tried SPG, Hilton, IHG and even Club Carlson.  They all have their place and time.  I don't always have a choice of where I stay, but when a Hyatt is available, I ...

Review: Park Hyatt Vienna

Vienna is a stately city rich with majestic architecture, an erudite culture, and a regal sense of style. In the center of the old city, replete with cobblestone walkways, horse drawn carriages, and glistening statues of historical luminaries, a new Park Hyatt ...

Plenty of Award Space at Park Hyatt Paris - Vendôme for Summer 2014

The deadline to make changes to your existing Hyatt Gold Passport reservations and still pay the old rate is this Saturday, February 15th. I booked a couple nights at the Park Hyatt Paris - Vendôme for this summer under the old rate of 22,000 points per night, but did not get the dates ...

Review: Park Hyatt Baku

Other than its barrage of CNN advertisements, you don't hear too much about Azerbaijan. When you do, it is usually a story encouraging investment by heralding the country's favorable interest rates and stable government or perhaps a blurb on the continuing ...

Park Water Villa at the Park Hyatt Maldives - Singapore Award

After six nights in a Park Pool Villa, we paid the up charge and moved to spend our last night in a Park Water Villa.  This was our wedding anniversary, and who knows when we'd return to a place like this, so we had to splurge on the quintessential Maldives experience: an over water ...

Dining and activities at the Park Hyatt Maldives - Singapore Award

I'm not the best person at simply relaxing.  I am usually on the move, and tend to get bored when in the same place for too long.  While I was really excited for this Maldives trip, I was a bit concerned about spending 7 days on an island in the middle of the Indian Ocean.  In ...

Park Pool Villa at the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa - Singapore Award

The ultimate destination of our trip on Singapore Airlines was the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa.  Park Hyatt is one of my favorite brands, and this seemed like a truly aspirational redemption.  I rarely stay anywhere for an extended period, so a whole week on an island with nowhere to go ...

New Park Hyatt promotional video

Park Hyatt is my favorite hotel brand, and I know I'm not alone in that assessment.

Hyatt has posted an updated promotional video for their iconic Park Hyatt brand.  Please take a look.

Room With a View: Park Hyatt Sydney

I trust you've been enjoying the Afghanistan trip report, which will resume shortly, but I had to interrupt my vacation (and the trip report) to cover the changes United Airlines has announced to elite qualification and award ticketing fees. It is not Friday afternoon yet, but hopefully the bad ...

Booking my Singapore Airlines First Class Award - Singapore Award

On the weekend in July 2012 when Singapore was changing over their computer systems which allowed SQ premium cabin space to be booked by Star Alliance partners.  I don't often jump on these crazy deals, but I couldn't let this pass me by.  I have always been intrigued by the Singapore ...

Hello from the Maldives

It's been quiet on RegionalFirst of late, but that is because I'm really enjoying my time mostly disconnected at the Park Hyatt Maldives.

Review: Park Hyatt Jeddah

Transiting through Jeddah on my way to Afghanistan, I had about 23 hours in Saudi Arabia between Saudia flights. A transit visa had been granted by the Saudi Embassy in Washington, DC and without even looking at other properties, I reserved a room at the Park ...

Review: Park Hyatt Istanbul - Maçka Palas

Much has changed since my last vacation to Istanbul. Five years earlier, I journeyed to the crossroads of east and west for the first time with my younger brother. We had a great time, though our accommodation—a small hostel in ...

Review: Park Hyatt Hamburg

When my brother and I decided to drive up to Hamburg for a weekend, there were many considerations that shaped our travel plans. Hamburg, Germany’s second largest city, is a nice change of pace from Frankfurt and it was a city I had only briefly seen on ...

An embarrassingly nice stay at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort.

$135 for a $500 suite on a business trip?  Yeah, I'll take that deal.

This is the first time I've ever stayed in a Park Hyatt for work, as well as the first time I've ever paid rather than used an award redemption.  These hotels are typically ...

Chilling in the Kingdom

Visiting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been near the top of my travel list for years, though getting there is not easy. There is no such thing as a tourist visa in the KSA and even obtaining a business or transit visa is difficult, or so I heard. Well, my experience was different.

This is just a teaser post--you won't read about the trip for another month or so--but I am enjoying a refreshing stay at the Park Hyatt Jeddah, had a good experience on Saudia, the Saudi national carrier and now a member of Skyteam, and have been impressed that Saudi Arabia--at least Jeddah--is not as conservative as I had imagined. Warm Arab hospitality and good food have made for a wonderful trip thus far.

Now I am going back to the pool...

A Park View King at the Park Hyatt Tokyo - The Journey the Destination

The next stop on my trip was a return to Tokyo.  This time, I decided to splurge on one of my most anticipated hotels ever.  Like many people, ever since seeing Lost in Translation, I wanted to visit the Park Hyatt Tokyo for myself.  Despite my attempts to keep this whole ...
