Hyatt Crystal City (DCA) Review and Photos

In order to complete my Hyatt Diamond Challenge last year, I booked three nights at the Hyatt Crystal City near Washington DCA Airport.

If you are mileage running and trying to keep your costs down there are two cheap options available to get to the hotel. Firstly the hotel runs a ...

The Hyatt Regency San Francisco - my home on the west coast

Do you have a hotel you are so familiar with it feels like a second home?  With my many stays in the last few years at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport, it has become my west coast home.

My company has an office on the San Francisco peninsula relatively close to ...

Review: Park Hyatt Jeddah

Transiting through Jeddah on my way to Afghanistan, I had about 23 hours in Saudi Arabia between Saudia flights. A transit visa had been granted by the Saudi Embassy in Washington, DC and without even looking at other properties, I reserved a room at the Park Hyatt Jeddah.
This isn't the ...

Review: Park Hyatt Istanbul - Maçka Palas

Much has changed since my last vacation to Istanbul. Five years earlier, I journeyed to the crossroads of east and west for the first time with my younger brother. We had a great time, though our accommodation—a small hostel in the Sultanahmet district—left much to be desired. ...

A stay at the Grand Hyatt Kauai - Escape to Hawaii

After our stay at the Sheraton Maui, we made our way to the airport for the quick flight to Kauai.  We had 5 nights on the island, and ultimately decided to split our time between the Grand Hyatt on the south side and the St. Regis in Princeville.

Our one previous stay on Kauai ...

Upgraded to a Parlor Suite at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare

Despite the fact that I live less than 100 miles from O'Hare, I do occasionally stay in hotels near there, in the case of a very early flight or irregular operations.
I've had a few stays at the rather unique looking Hyatt Regency O'Hare recently.  In both cases I was ...

Review: Hyatt 48 Lex - Manhattan

On a recent visit to New York City, I was left with a bit of a challege to determine where to stay. Hyatt has five properties scattered through the city, with another one opening later this year.
Although the Andaz properties were enticing (I'll have a report on the Andaz 5th Ave shortly), the ...

Trying Hyatt's new Shampoo - KenetMD

KenetMD products are finally available for sale online! Click here
I have discussed my aversion to Portico White Ginger bathroom amenities that used to be the standard at most Hyatt and Hyatt Place hotels.  As mentioned in my previous post, Hyatt has moved on to new brands, although ...

Review: Park Hyatt Hamburg

When my brother and I decided to drive up to Hamburg for a weekend, there were many considerations that shaped our travel plans. Hamburg, Germany’s second largest city, is a nice change of pace from Frankfurt and it was a city I had only briefly seen on a business trip earlier in the ...

The Singapore Adventure - Introduction

During the summer upgrade of Singapore Airlines' reservations systems, I made a few speculative award bookings for SQ First and Business class. I had never flown on Singapore, and with their policy to not release premium cabin space on their newer aircraft to Star Alliance partners, I knew it was ...

Review: Hyatt Andaz Liverpool Street London

Let’s face it: there are not enough days of the year for me to review every hotel in London. Does that mean, however, that I cannot authoritatively recommend one even while others have yet to be reviewed? Certainly not, and this review will serve to introduce you to the Andaz Liverpool ...

A roundup of my 2012 travels

As the new year approaches, it is time again to reflect on the past year, and look ahead to plans for 2013.

Here is my route map for 2012.
2012 was a pretty busy year for travel for me, I had some great experiences with new aircraft and new destinations on my award trips.  My ...

The Grand Hyatt Sinagpore: Twenty-Four Hours in Singapore

Introduction United Airlines Economy Plus LAX-Singapore The Grand Hyatt Singapore Traffic was non-existent as our cab sped towards the Grand Hyatt. The driver spoke excellent English, and upon discovering that this was our first time in Singapore, offered up several suggestions for places ...

A Great Loss for Curaçao: Santa Barbara Beach and Golf Resort

This post started out as a raving review of my stay at the Hyatt Curaçao earlier this month.  Unfortunately, as I was writing this post I learned  that the owners of the property had ousted Hyatt in a middle of the night koo.

Sadly, this is a great loss for ...

An embarrassingly nice stay at the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort.

$135 for a $500 suite on a business trip?  Yeah, I'll take that deal.
This is the first time I've ever stayed in a Park Hyatt for work, as well as the first time I've ever paid rather than used an award redemption.  These hotels are typically outside the my ...

Soap at Hyatt Hotels - Anything but White Ginger

When you hear (or smell) Portico White Ginger, what do you think of?
I am a frequent Hyatt guest, and am more than a little sick of that foul aroma, which is the standard offering for bathroom amenities at most Hyatt and Hyatt Place hotels.  Other Hyatt brands including ...

Challenge Yourself to a Hyatt Diamond Status Trial

I've never been that excited about hotel status or hotel upgrades. It's just a room, and a suite is just a bigger room - sometimes an apartment. Generally when my travel includes a hotel stay I'm usually working at a client site, visiting friends, or seeing the city. However, sometimes it's nice to ...

Chilling in the Kingdom

Visiting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been near the top of my travel list for years, though getting there is not easy. There is no such thing as a tourist visa in the KSA and even obtaining a business or transit visa is difficult, or so I heard. Well, my experience was different.

This is just a teaser post--you won't read about the trip for another month or so--but I am enjoying a refreshing stay at the Park Hyatt Jeddah, had a good experience on Saudia, the Saudi national carrier and now a member of Skyteam, and have been impressed that Saudi Arabia--at least Jeddah--is not as conservative as I had imagined. Warm Arab hospitality and good food have made for a wonderful trip thus far.

Now I am going back to the pool...
