The first Ritz Carlton Reserve property in the Americas - at Dorado Beach in Puerto Rico - is now open. A former Fairfield County resident and long-term FT'er, 747, was kind enough to share some photos with me from the opening day today.
While I had a very difficult time at the opening of the St Regis Bahia
in 2010 - giving me pause before I visit another new Caribbean hotel for a few years - many aspects of this property look quite promising. With convenient non-stop flights from many east coast cities and no need for a passport, Puerto Rico should be a great desitnation. My experiences there, at the St Regis, Ritz Carlton and El Conquistador have left a lot to be desired - but I hold out hope that the "Reserve" brand within Ritz Carlton can pull this off.
Fool me once, shame on you...
Without further ado, here are the photos from opening day.
Thanks to 747 for sharing!

This property looks absolutely amazing!
Why would I want to eat food out of shoe?
I don't believe you can redeem MR points for stays here, just as you can no longer redeem points at the Ritz-Cartlon Reserve in Krabi, Thailand. My post about that place here: http://upgrd.com/blogs/cloudcommuting/review-phulay-bay-a-ritz-carlton-reserve.html
I don't think you could ever redeem at RCR Krabi.
RC-SIN is also not in the program. :( Frustrating. (They gave me an upgrade to a full suite at SIN anyway on a recent state.)
