Trying Hyatt's new Shampoo - KenetMD

KenetMD products are finally available for sale online! Click here

I have discussed my aversion to Portico White Ginger bathroom amenities that used to be the standard at most Hyatt and Hyatt Place hotels.  As mentioned in my previous post, Hyatt has moved on to new brands, although the Portico may still be offered until stock is depleted.  Here is the new offering at many Hyatt properties, KenetMD

kenetmd-samples

Yes, this is another post about hotel shampoo.  I never thought I would write about this once, let alone twice, but thanks to KenetMD, Hyatt's new shampoo/soap brand, here I am again.  After my original post, I was contacted by KenetMD, who offered to send me some samples.   They did not ask me to write a review.  They didn't ask me to do anything, other than to enjoy their product that they were proud to share.

KenetMD is now the brand standard for Hyatt Regency and Hyatt Resort properties. KenetMD also makes a special formulation for Hyatt Respire rooms, which is fragrance-free and hypo-allergenic.  The product offering seems to be the same at Hyatt Hotels and Hyatt Resorts except that the bottles are 2 ounces at resorts vs 1.25 ounces at hotels.  Fans of the Portico "bumpy soap"/massage bar will be pleased that this is not going away.

kenetmd-hyatt-resorts

This product line is a collaboration between NYC dermatologist Dr. Barney Kenet and hotel amenity provider Gilchrist and Soames.

Thanks to the samples I received, I've been using the KenetMD products for a few weeks now, and while they are a definite improvement on the overpowering White Ginger scent, I'm not totally in love with them.  Mild is probably the best description.  The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash have a light lather but the soaps do lather up well.  The lotion is nice, absorbs well, even in the middle of winter here in chilly Wisconsin.  All products have a pleasing but very mild scent.  It is a blend of mandarin oranges, green tea, and eucalyptus and lemongrass.

The products are declared to be Eco-friendly since they are 100% recyclable, never tested on animals and contain no animal products.  I'm no expert on skin care products, but these contain no parabens, phthalates, DMDM, SLS, or ALS.  Please let me know if you interested in these details, I can share more info from the marketing materials I received.

I'm pleased that Hyatt has replaced the awful-smelling White Ginger with the mildly scented KenetMD products.  In my opinion, its a big improvement.  Thanks to the preview I got, I've already experienced it, but I've seen reports of these being in Hyatt hotels.  I have some Hyatt stays coming up, so I'll likely get the opportunity to use these on the road.

Have you tried KenetMD products?  What's your opinion?

Update: For those interested in KenetMD products, I understand these will be available for sale at the Hyatt at Home website in late July or early August.  I will update again once products are for sale online.

Thanks for the report, Geoff. I've heard great things about Olive 8, but never have stayed.

I have a Hyatt Regency and a Hyatt Place stay next week, and hoping the White Ginger stocks are depleted by now!

Still have white ginger at Hyatt Vineyard Creek in Sonoma. Bleh.

The Andaz Napa carried a mixture of a proprietary brand, while they also had Lather shower caps. I'm wondering if they are shifting to Lather, which is what Andaz West Hollywood is using.

Thanks Brad!! I'm Platinum with Hyatt and have detested the White Ginger smell of their products for years. I haven't tried the new products yet so I wrote the KenetMD to see if they'd send me a few samples! Appreciate the heads up on this!

Brad February 1, 2013 at 09:33 am

@ptahcha As I understand it each hotel brand will have a different shampoo/soap brand as well. I seem to remember Lather at Andaz in the past, so maybe they are sticking to it, or haven't moved to a new one yet. How was the Andaz Napa? Love to check that property out sometime.

@Scotty You're welcome. I think the KenetMD stuff is very inoffensive. Nice and mild, I think you will prefer them to White Ginger.

My husband and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency downtown off of Michigan Ave. this week, Feb. 9 &10th and used the KenetMD products. I was particularly impressed with the Cleansing Bar and would like to know if it is sold retail anywhere. I also would like to know what the ingredients are, because it was so mild. I have sensitive skin and it really felt very nice. Thanks. Blair Ashby

Hello Blair,

Glad you liked the KenetMD products. I agree that they are pleasant.

I'm not aware of of retail outlets selling these products. The Hyatt at Home store still lists Portico White Ginger for sale. My best suggestion is for you to contact KenetMD directly, http://kenetmd.com/contact/

The information I can find discusses more of what is no in the soaps, rather than what is included. The only thing I found listed as an ingredient in the soap is palm oil.

Just spent time at Hyatt in Indian Wells, CA and Scottsdale, AZ and LOVE the shampoo. Other than the brand used at Pebble Beach this is the best hotel product I have ever used. How can I purchase it?? Where can I purchase it??? I asked at both hotels and they were unable to help me. I really love this and would like to recommend that my hair salon start to carry it. Thanks!

Sandra and Blair,

I spoke to my contact at KenetMD who mentioned that retail sizes of these products would be available on the Hyatt website in July. I have updated the post to reflect this information.

Hope that helps

Brad

I've also tried the new KenetMD products two months ago and I must admit I find them very good. I specially found the shampoo great for oily and soft hair. So now I can't wait for them to start selling it to the public also.

I recently tried the Kenet products at the Hyatt Place Downtown Austin and really loved them! I would love to purchase the shampoo/conditioner, so it's too bad they aren't available retail yet. Hopefully they will be at some point.

I just stayed this past week at the Hyatt regency St. Louis at the Arch. I washed my hair the first day and it was fantastic. My hair never looked so good. My friends said the same. I asked the hotel staff if the shampoo was new and they said yes. I thought it might be the water but I tried the sample at home and it worked the same. I can't wait to be able to buy this shampoo.

I stayed at the Hyatt in Greenville S.C. last week. I used the Kenet products, and loved them. I've been a hairdresser for 30 years and I've never found any product that worked as well on my hair. My question is ,can I buy it ?

Brad July 17, 2013 at 09:31 am

Update July 17: KenetMD products are supposed to become available for sale on Hyatt's website in "Summer 2013". My sources tell me that product is being shipped, and that it will be available for sale soon, hopefully by August.

I used the shampoo/conditioner while at the Corpus Christi Hyatt. When I returned to AZ my hairdresser noticed a softness to my hair. I am wondering if it is possible to purchase these products.

I used the cleansing bar last week when I was staying at the Hyatt and I loved it so much that I asked hotel housekeeping for another bar so I could see who made it and order some. It doesn't appear to be available on the company website though, so I may be out of luck. Btw, I have used the same face soap for about 40 years, and I would be willing to switch if I could buy the KennetMD cleansing bar.

(I used the body lotion and it was fine--not really any better than any other lotion I've used, and I didn't try the shampoo or conditioner, although now I wish I had.)

Just stayed at the Hyatt in St. Louis over the weekend. Used soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion. Shampoo and conditioner were and fine and would use them again. The lotion was just ok. My husband absolutely loved the face soap and massage bath bar. He would love to buy the soaps, but I looked on the Hyatt home sight and the KenetMD sight and neither offered the bar soaps for sale. If you find out anything about buying the bar soaps, please post it.

Thanks, Tina Hallmark

My neice from California came for a visit to North Carolina and left her shampoo and conditioner in the shower, which worked well for me. I tried your product and love the way it leaves my hair feeling. Shiny, easy to manage and I have curly hair that is normally impossible. Thanks for a great product.

Me and my husband stayed at the Hyatt in Miami last weekend and I must say that I fell in love with KenetMD shampoo and conditioner. I have never had a shampoo or conditioner that left my hair so soft and silky before and I LOVE it. I had the opportunity of using the products Friday and Sunday and it was great each time and I just purchased it online. Thanks to the Hyatt, I appreciate the opportunity to be able to purchase KenetMD products.

Thank you,

Valerie

I participated in the DirtyGirl Mud Run this past weekend in Ventura, CA and they were giving away free 1oz samples of KenetMD Body Lotion. I just started using it on Sunday and I really like! I have sensitive skin, which breaks and tears in the mild California winters and my hands feel very silky and smooth. The scent is amazing, very light and delicate. Where can I get a sample of their other products?

We stayed at the Hyatt in Albequerque, New Mexico. We traveled light so used the shampoo and conditioner in the hotel which was KenetMd. We thought it was so odd how the shampoo did not lather up at all. But I noticed it was easy to brush my long wet hair after using it and the conditioner. After reading all these reviews. I wish I has brought one home to try with our water (we have great well water, no iron). Albequerque was so dry I feel the need to use extra deep conditioner when I get home. Wondering how good this product really is now. Did love the lotion, smelled and feels awesome on my skin. Used it a lot.

Just returned from Hyatt Dulles where I tried these products. I am PICKY about products, having been a stylist for over 20 years and being into Organic and healthy products. LOVE that these are fragrance free! And they work fabulously! Impressed.

I recently used your shampoo and conditioner from the Hyatt in Omaha. Can you tell me where I can buy these products. Also, my natural hair color is grey, so my hair is color treated. Do you have a shampoo for color treated hair? I love these products!

Loved the Kenet MD unscented amenities! Where can I buy them?

#41
Brad February 25, 2014 at 08:03 am

The standard scented products are available from the Hyatt website linked in this post. Unfortunately @Sharon, I don't see the unscented products available anywhwere at this time.

Thank you so much for this review! I'm vegan and staying at a Hyatt right now, wondering whether the provided toiletries are vegan. I'm so glad to hear that they are free of animal products and animal testing! I brought my own (as many vegans do) but it's a pleasant surprise, and a smart business move by Hyatt to accommodate vegans!

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota8n Nobember, 2013 and I used the KenetMD cleansing bar during my stay . I see the shampoo and conditioner are available on both Hyatt's and Kenet's websites but not the cleasing bar. Where can I purchase the cleasing bar. I brought two home from the hotel and it has done wonders for my skin.

I stayed at the Hyatt Place, Northeast Cincinnati this weekend and love the cleansing bar. I have dry skin and usually apply baby oil after showering. I forgot to bring the oil, but noticed I didn't need it after using the cleansing bar. The mild scent is pleasant. I am interested in purchasing this bar.
