Source: Virgin Atlantic to join Star Alliance

va_star I’m told by a source at Star Alliance; Virgin Atlantic will be joining “very soon”. Again this is just leaked information. Richard Branson hinted that Virgin will be joining a global alliance soon. Star is the one that would not be a big surprise as Singapore airlines a Star member owns 49% of Virgin Atlantic. Star also lost bmi earlier this year.

Virgin Atlantic will soon be starting their first domsic UK flight from Manchester to London soon. Could more UK feeder flights be added to grab some long hall passengers from other Star airlines to/from LHR?

British Airways is One World and it would be highly unlikely Virgin or BA would go for that. Sky Team is the other option, but being that Virgin has co share agreements with other Star Alliance members and is about 1/2 owned by a current member airline, Star is looking good for Virgin.

My money is on SkyTeam. I'm not saying that's what I prefer, just what I think will happen.

Hello Virgin Clubhouse!

With the demise of BMI, this would be a nice addition.

That would be amazing if the Virgin Clubhouse let Star Golds in

This would be amazing.... let's just hope they don't bring their fuel surcharges with them. I was playing around on the Virgin Atlantic website a couple days ago, and their route network, assuming you want to connect in LHR, is really impressive.
