Sorry Sir Silver is not Elite

When you travel a lot you run into people that are just well a pain in the ass. Today at a Hilton in London there was a man who was yelling at the front desk agent, I’m Silver Elite! I should get an upgrade! The agent was very professional as the guy kept yelling at her in his Chicago Bears NFL jersey. (There is an NFL game today in London). She was trying to tell him that only Gold and Diamond members get upgraded and the hotel was oversold today due to an event in town and some Diamonds would not even get an upgrade. He just kept yelling at her “Do you know how much this hotel is costing me??”, she looked at her computer and said, “Yes sir, I see you booked our special discounted sale rate”. This dude would not give up. He then demanded a manager, he once again proclaimed i’m a Silver Elite! The manager after about five minutes of this dude acting like a jack ass pulled out some Hilton Manual and read the VIP benefits to him. The guy gave up and stomped off in a fit of rage.

First off this is an embarrassment to Americans, you are in a hotel in some NFL jersey yelling at a poor front line hotel worker, telling her you should be upgraded as a silver in a program that silver is really a nothing status. There is no wonder why Americans get a bad rap around the world.

An hour later I noticed this guy was trying to get in to the Executive lounge once again having a heated discussion with the staff. He did not get in.

Events like this just make me mad, first off treat all people with respect! My god this poor front desk girl did a good job in the situation but there is no reason she should be yelled at for doing her job and doing it right! Secondly know you place in your respective program. It is always good to see people who make status and enjoy the perks, but this guy really needs to know his place in the program..

On a side note as a Diamond I was upgraded to a full suite at this hotel. I will post a full review and the hotel name once I check out..

Americans get a bad rap or rep not wrap

In any case, this thug should be ashamed of himself. I saw a guy like recently trying to score an upgrade in FRA. "But I'm a Star Gold member..."

People, know your program rules.

That is the whole problem with most Silver status levels. It really means nothing, but gives the causal traveler unrealistic expectations. At least Hyatt offers a real benefit for their Platinum members (free internet).

The real question is... did you go to the game???

Nope.. 2 teams I could care less about.. Also not willing to pay that much.

As a former Hilton front desk, I have to say that happens on a daily basis. And I'm sure it happens all over the world. Also when Gold or Diamond members don't get upgraded because of fully-booked hotel, they complain, not knowing upgrade is based on availability... Yes people, know your program rules.
