Do you have a membership at the club away from the hubbub (yes... that was actually UA's marketing line for a some time)? If you're a member of the Red Carpet Club, and plan to be for the rest of your life, you can buy a lifetime membership again for a limited time. United did away with their lifetime memberships many years ago, but Continental has kept their President's Club memberships alive. The prices are listed here and pasted below.

Once the merger with Continental is complete, your lifetime membership at the President's Club will transfer over to the Red Carpet Club, so says the FAQ.
Personally, I'm not going to pay the $4k+ to get a lifetime membership. While that's a pretty good deal, I'm already at a half million miles. Once you hit 2 million, you get free red carpet club access for life. I think I'll get there...

I'm kicking my younger self for not taking advantage of a lifetime membership that was offered to UA employees in the 1990s. It was something like $700, and should have jumped on it when I worked there!
I'm definitely passing on $4600, though.
I bought my RCC lifetime membership from the HNL RCC in 1984 for approx. $1200, because United gave 15,000 MP miles and 2 Lifetime RCC luggage tags (gold colored).
United announced today that 2 million mile flyers will now be lifetime United Premier Platinums, a new category of people that fly between 75,000 and 99,999 miles a year. They will NO LONGER receive lifetime Red Carpet Club Membership. The ONLY way to get a lifetime RCC membership is to buy a lifetime CO PC membership as you suggested but it must be done by THIS FRIDAY 30 September 2011. Also, On 31 December, United will adjust lifetime mileage status for United flyers to include ALL bonus miles ever received meaning many people with 500,000 or more miles will instantly become lifetime United Premier Gold Million Mile Flyers (Premier Gold will be the new name for Premier Executive next year).
