Welcome to episode six of The Crew Lounge where we discuss flight atttendant schedule bidding. This week we are joined by panelists Shelby and Jenn.

In this week's news

  • American Airlines is following British Airways' lead by possibly training replacement flight attendants in case of a strike,
  • find out why a man attacked his flight crew on a recent flight to Los Angeles, and,
  • as this weeks "hot topic" we discuss, in detail, flight attendant schedule bidding.

And of course to bring things to a close we answer your questions from the cabin!

We hope to see you every week in the lounge, where we'll dish the dirt and give you a peek behind the galley curtain! Remember to check upgrd.com/TheCrewLounge for blog posts by Sara & Bobby in between podcasts or check out Sara's blog at TheFlyingPinto.com and Bobby's at UpUpAndAGay.com. If you have a comment about something we've spoken about, question for our panel of flight attendants, or if you just want to say "hi!" call our comment line and record your message at: 620-CREW-LGE (620-273-9543).

If you're a flight attendant and would like to join us on a future episode, please email us at FA@upgrd.com.

Thanks for listening!

I am appalled at Sara's casual story about a flight attendent spitting in a passenger's drink and Sara doing nothing to stop it when she had the opportunity to do so.

The spitter did not do something "funny", rather she committed criminal assault and criminal tampering.

Further, Sara had an affirmative obligation to stop this illegal behaviour.

If it were my airline, I fire them both.

listen,

I too was appalled by my co-workers behavior, I may have come off as casual but that is my personality. Since our show is limited to 45 minutes, I decided to only tell the highlights;-)The part I found funny was the customers reaction not the spitting.

The lead flight attendant did indeed turn "the spitter" in and it is up to the airline to deal with the situation.

I own two restaurants. I fire employees for just saying they would spit in someones food. I would fire employees who watch other employees spit in peoples food and do nothing about it. If an employee spits in someones food I will call the police and have that employee arrested.

You, Sara, let the other attendant take the drink to the passenger knowing he might drink from it. Why did you do that? Is that part of your casual personality? It certainly isn't a professional attitude or a caring attitude.

Well, as I said, I summarized for time sake. I actually did not see my co worker spit. She told me as the call light of the pax was going off. Once I was aware, after answering the call light, I then brought it too the attention of the lead flight attendant. I would like to reiterate that the part I found funny, was. The customers reaction. Nobody drank it and I certainly did not let anyone do that.

If you wouldn't have said "I've never seen this before ... she got him a coke and spit in it." and if you would have mentioned that you told the lead flight about your co-worker spitting in a passenger's drink in the podcast or your prior comment maybe people wouldn't be thinking that you your only reaction was to almost lose it and nearly pee in your pants.

Seriously people, get a grip! It's a show and supposed to be HUMOUROUS! You'd be surprised what I've seen FAs do and it's people with no sense of humor that need to take a bus!

She summarized the story, there is a time limit, get over it! Who knows how long ago this was?

@listen, @Michael Mays and @everyone else that is upset by the spitting story - we apologize for the way this story was told. As Sara mentioned she was trying to recant the funny way the passenger calmly reacted to such an incident and was in no way approving this behavior or allowing it to be tolerated in the future.

We try to move quickly from one topic to the next, trying to finish the show in a half hour if possible but, so far, are failing miserably. As such Sara's quick story lacked details, but I trust her above comments her clarify her position.

This thread is closed to further discussion on the spitting story. If you have any comments or questions about the rest of the podcast from crew scheduling to bid sheets please feel free to leave them here.

It was very interesting hearing about the scheduling at airlines, also a little confusing, but sounds like seniority is the key. Your podcasts are great...how about an interview with female pilots?

@Lydia - If you know any female pilots who might be interested in participating please have them contact us.
