In this week's frequent flyer podcast, we are joined by Nicholas Kralev to discuss his new book Decoding Air Travel. We discuss how you can construct your own airfare by looking at the airline tariffs and inventory buckets and why you should be loyal to one airline alliance to maximize your benefits. In addition we cover some current promotions:
- 40% discount on Lufthansa business class upgrades
- US Airways 100% bonus on purchased miles is back
Do you have any tips for finding the lowest airfare? Let us know in the comments below.

I'm a big fan if the podcast but this episode was not too interesting for your average UPGRD listener. Nicholas tips were pretty basic stuff and his monologs were certainly not as entertaining as what you guys usually have to say.
Just wanted to give a quick thank you to you guys for mentioning that, for schedule changes on United, agents are allowed to preserve confirmed upgrades by converting C to NC (or F to NF) on alternate itineraries if one doesn't like the itinerary the computer chose for you. The phone rep I just spoke to didn't know about it beforehand, but was happy to do it once I mentioned it was in the schedule change profile!
I wanted to listen to this but I could not sit through the sniffling. Could someone please mute the mic of the person sniffling it is painful to listen to it :(
