In this week's frequent flyer podcast we revisit the Marriott Rewards hotel loyalty program as Kevin wanted to clarify some mis-information in our last Marriott Rewards podcast on the subject. We discuss:
- Fozz's recent first class award on Lufthansa's A380
- Virgin America's new routes instead of Chicago
- Marriott Rewards tips from Kevin
- Marriott Rewards Mega Bonus
- 115,000 points for $1,000 in hotel credits for future stays (which accrue points)
- The JW Marriott properties
- Point saver rates even at Ritz Carlton
- and Elephants.
What is your opinion of the Marriott Rewards program? Why would you choose it over another program? Anything we missed?

Even after a second try you guys miss some of the best features of the Marriott program. Here are two: Platinum Arrival Gift: your choice upon check in of a beverage and food. The beverage is a small bottle of wine or large beer and the food ranges from a cheese platter to a pint of Haagen-Daz. Perfect late snack so you don't need to go out or spend money on room service. If they forget to give you this gift, they owe you $100 cash! Second (and probably more importatn to frequent flyers) is redeeming points for a travel package consisting of a week at a hotel plus up to 120,000 miles on basically any airline except AA. The beauty is that the miles are exchanged at 1:1 for points. MR points are pretty easy to come by so this is a great way to add a lot of miles to a FF program of your choice. I got 40,000 bonus points for staying 25 nights during the summer. Convert those to miles. When was the last time you got a 40,000 mile bonus from an airline?
