Earlier today, I blogged about my confirmed upgrade from IAD-BOS mysteriously disappearing overnight.

From what I gathered at Dulles this morning, someone with a fat-finger in inventory management accidentally cleared all the waitlisted upgrades last night (to put it in the terms of the IAD customer service director I spoke with: "Some idiot in IM released the upgrades too early"). Can you imagine the mayhem if that happened systemwide?

I'm scratching my head as I sit in the Philadelphia Red Carpet Club this morning. I've got a meeting in Boston today and am traveling from PHL-IAD-BOS. Last night, I got a text message from United that my upgrade from IAD-BOS cleared. Great! Usually when an upgrade clears after you check-in, you have to be offloaded and re-checked in at the airport to get the upgraded seat assignment.

I missed another upgrade this week. Although I've got more SWUs and CR-1s than I know what to do with, I figured I'd have no trouble clearing an A320 (12 first class seats) on a Monday night Denver to Philadelphia flight that was was F9, NF9 at the the 1K window. I was wrong.

There must have been quite a few Global Service and 1K members traveling with companions, because the flight quickly dropped to F3, NF0 with me left on the waitlist just past the 100-hour window. By the morning ...
