Review: Le Meridien Ile Des Pins

llmidp-standing-at-front

Prior to this trip, this was probably in the top three of SPG resorts I wanted to visit. I stumbled upon it a few years ago while just browsing the SPG website, and my first reaction was, “Where the heck is New Caledonia?” Reaction two: “Wait ...

Credit Card Application - UPDATE

A couple of days ago I applied for a few cards and shared which they would be.  I mentioned that becuase of being out of the country off and on over a recent four-year span, my credit history looks like swiss cheese with holes all over the place.  I wasn't terribly confident in how many ...

It's Credit Card Application Day - Which Ones and Why I Value Them

I am not quite like other bloggers in that I have only as of late really started to apply for reward earning credit cards with any consistency, though I have carried a few accumulated over time.  My situation was unique, as my wife and I were in and out of the country for four years (mostly ...

The Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville- Star to Spain

sevilla-hotel-alfonso-lobby

After our time in Málaga and Granada, our last stop on our trip in Andalusia was in Seville.  Here we let a hotel promotion help guide our destination planning to some extent.  I had some free SPG nights to use, so we tried to maximize this redemption. ...

2013: Year in Review

2013 has been an exciting year for me, and I am fortunate that I once again had the chance to travel quite a bit! I graduated from college in May, and immediately went to work at trying to maintain my status while also working full-time.

90% of my travel in 2013 was for leisure, while the ...

A Review of the Historic Westin "Palace Hotel" - Madrid

cn_image_0.size.westin-palace-madrid-madrid-spain-107282-1

This historical hotel in Madrid turned 101 years old on the night I was a guest. I have to admit upfront I’m more of a fan of modern hotels, but this hotel did a very good job at keeping to it’s historical ties while incorporating corporate brands ...

Executive Suite at the Sheraton Towers Singapore - Singapore Award

sheraton-towers-singapore-lobby

After returning from the Maldives, our flight schedules required an overnight stay in Singapore.  I wanted to have something that was convenient.  There were certainly closer hotels to Changi, but I wanted a SPG night credit, plus the cash and points cost (before the 2013 devaluation) ...

United 737 intra-Asia - Mileage Run to Hong Kong

united-737-nrt-hkg

It was a little disappointing to fly a narrowbody Continental Micronesia United 737 between major hubs in Asia, but the timing worked well for my mileage run to Hong Kong.  I flew to Narita on the United 787 from Denver, and had about 2 hours at Narita before continuing to Hong ...

Suite at the Westin Kuala Lumpur - Singapore Award

westin-kuala-lumpur-8

After a few days in Singapore, our next stop was in Kuala Lumpur.  The first two nights of our stay were at the Westin.  We chose this hotel due to its convenient location in the so-called Golden Triangle of Kuala Lumpur, near the KLCC and the famed Petronas Towers.
