New Priority Pass Lounge in T5 at London Heathrow

While I usually make a beeline to one of the British Airways lounges when traveling through Heathrow's Terminal 5, lately I have been doing more intra-Europe economy class on BA (only 4,500 miles for flights under 600 miles). Having lost my AA Executive Platinum status, that means no more BA ...

South African Airlines Business Class from London to Johannesburg

After landing in London from our journey on Virgin Altantic Upper Class, we decided to check out the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, as it is apparently one of the nicest lounges in the world. Unfortunately, we were REJECTED by the lounge! Apparently, in order to enter the lounge, you must have a ...

Virgin Atlantic Upper Class to London: LAX to LHR

I still remembering hearing the radio commercials for "Virgin Atlantic Upper Class to London" when I was growing up in LA. I didn't know much about flying, and I didn't know much about London, but I loved that lady's accent! As the first major part of our honeymoon, my wife and I were able to ...

Food from First Class

After reading a blog over on Gadling.com: Cockpit Chronicles, "Food in the Cockpit, How it's Prepared", it got me thinking of my travels and some of the great food selections I have enjoyed when traveling in First Class as a passenger.
I believe I got the idea of taking a few pics of my food ...

Heathrow Express

I wrote earlier this autumn about Seattle’s fairly new light rail system.  At the other end of the spectrum in airport rail-based mass transit is the Heathrow Express.  Whereas Seattle’s service is highly subsidized, and also used for local transit, the Heathrow Express (HEX) ...

British Airways Arrivals at London Heathrow (LHR)

New York to London is one of the most heavily traveled international business routes in the world.  There are over 20 services daily on this route – BA alone operates eight each day.  Their oneworld partner, American, runs several more each day.
For many business travelers from ...

Not the best day to arrive at Heathrow?

Uh oh.  My current schedule has me landing at LHR Wednesday morning.  It appears that could be trouble...arriving during a labor (labour?) action by a number of UK unions, including the border officers.

BAA (the privately owned airport operator) has publicly written to all the carriers advising of 12 hour queues and are asking carriers to run flights at 50% loads.  Their letter is here.  Not good.

Barring the action getting called off, I think I may call off my trip!

American Airlines Status Challenge Trip to London: Introduction

I mentioned the status challenge being offered as a part of the oneworld MegaDO, and how it required only 10K miles for me to match my status over to Platinum on AA.  Well in one week, I will be taking a trip to get the bulk of the miles for that challenge.  I originally had planned to do ...

Chicago to Brussels & London Heathrow to Los Angeles in United Economy Plus

The life of a frequent business traveler isn't always glamorous. In fact, despite what family members and friends might think, it's usually NOT. Dealing with time changes, giving presentations, having to go out to dinner, not being able to see friends, etc - okay - I'm getting off topic here, but ...

Source: Virgin Atlantic to buy bmi and Join Star.

A very good source tells me that Virgin Atlantic will buy "most of" bmi (British Midland International) within 90-120 days and Virgin Atlanic will join Star Alliance within a year after that. The bmi name will go away and the Virgin Atlanic name will stay after they fully join. Lufthansa is ready to ...
