Final Chance for Status Match + Points Transfer from bmi to British Airways

Come December 31st, now just two days away, the bmi Diamond Club will shut its doors for most of the world. If you've neglected transferring any destination miles from your bmi account to your British Airways Executive Club account, it is now or never. Same with a status match.
After numerous ...

Final Week to Burn bmi Diamond Club Miles for Star Alliance Awards

As we enter the final week to redeem bmi Diamond Club miles for Star Alliance Awards, I want to review how you can effectively use your miles and share some of my recent redemption success stories.
First off, you should redeem in the next few days. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH! When ...

Top up your bmi Diamond Club Miles with a 20% bonus

With just under two weeks left to redeem Diamond Club miles for Star Alliance flights, bmi has sweetened the incentive to burn your points now with a 20% bonus on purchased miles. If you are just short of another award (like I was), take advantage of this offer. The miles posted in about six hours ...

Transfer British Airways Avios to bmi Diamond Club at 1:1 Ratio

I received an update from British Midland International (bmi) this morning on their acquisition by British Airways and move out of Star Alliance. Most of the news was expected, but I did learn two new things: first, bmi Diamond Club miles will transfer to British Airways Avios at a 1:1 basis. ...

Last Day to Burn bmi Diamond Club Miles on Lufthansa Group Flights

It's 6:00a here in Philadelphia and I still haven't gone to bed yet--I've spent the last three hours on the phone with British Midland International's Diamond Club award redemption center. My goal: burn my remaining miles in a cost-effective manner. So far, so good.
But that's not the point of ...

Best Strategies for Burning Your bmi Diamond Club Miles

With bmi poised to leave Star Alliance next week, those sitting on a mountain of Diamond Club miles would be wise to burn as many possible before 18 April. Even if British Airways transfers Diamond Club miles into Executive Club Avios points at a 1:1 rate and even conceding that the new BA Avios ...

My Intra-Europe bmi Award to Armenia via Iceland

I recently redeemed a chunk of my British Midland International (bmi) points for an intra-Europe award that includes Iceland and Armenia. The trip is coming up soon, but the more I think about the itinerary, the more I think my points and money would be better allocated elsewhere.
First, the ...

British Midland Yanks Star Alliance Silver Status from New Members

Last week, I blogged about British Midland (bmi) offering free Star Alliance Silver status to new members of their Diamond Club program. Apparently, that offer was not meant for everyone.
James, a reader of this blog, just forwarded me the following e-mail he received from ...

1,000 bmi Diamond Club Miles for Completing Brief Survey

Although the offer appears targeted, take a moment to fill out a brief survey from bmi. It only takes about two minutes so even if you get passed over for the 1,000 Diamond Club miles, it is worth the small time investment to give it a shot.

In the survey, I urged bmi to bring to back service to Chicago and Las Vegas. Somehow, I think my request will fall upon deaf ears.

British Midland's Disgusting Award Surcharges

British Midland's (bmi) Diamond Club award program boasts on its home page, "Free airmiles. Free flights." After forking out over £1,100 (~$1,800) in taxes and surcharges for two business class tickets, I think it is an insult and a lie to call award redemptions on bmi ...

BMI Diamond Club to cease

Based on this thread on Flyertalk, it appears that BMI's Diamond Club will cease to exist in the next few days and be migrated to Lufthansa's Miles and More.

This is truly sad but honestly I can't say that I'm surprised.

Upgrd 53: BMI Diamond Club Gold Status

This is probably the shortest elite status podcast ever but we covered some listener questions about BMI Diamond Club. Since we recorded this last week there have been some changes - Fozz will be posting some updates on his blog about this soon.

This week we discuss BMI, their frequent flyer program, and why so many Upgrd contributors have BMI Gold status as one of their "backup" programs.

Please send in your comments about BMI's program or anything we missed or has changed.

BMI's future

For a few months now there has been a lot of speculation as to what will happen with BMI (British Midland) and its Frequent Flyer Program, Diamond Club since Lufthansa acquired the remaining shares earlier this year.
This was one of the questions that was ...
