It is now 2013 everywhere in the world (stragglers in Hawaii made it, too!)!
2012 brought many highlights (and thankfully few lowlights) for my family - I hope the same for yours.
The year now ended was marked with some great points-funded travel. Our family trip to Paris, anniversary weekend at the Plaza, dad+kids trip to FLL and a trip up to YYG were all largely funded via this points hobby.
We've just returned home from a wonderful and extremely memorable holiday in Dubai and Abu Dhabi (premium cabin flights via points!). The kids (and parents) are slowly re-calibrating body clocks - school resumes tomorrow! The trip report is underway.
On deck for 2013 are business trips to LAS and Utah (ski outing) in Q1. Family trips to YYG, FLL and SEA are all but certain for some point during the year.
I need to give it a few weeks before I start discussing Christmas 2013 travel plans with my wife. I've got a few ideas in mind (including one from my wife - Antarctica - though last we talked we agreed to wait a few more years for this). I'd welcome any suggestions you may have for good family holiday destinations. (Except for Antarctica, we have a preference for warmer locales.)
I wish everyone a healthy and prosperous New Year!

If you're going up to SEA, make sure you drive 2 hrs North to YVR. It's a great family destination with skiing and an overall stunning destination.
Tx. SEA is my wife's ancestral home. It's principally family time in Laurelhurst for us!
I know you like warm climates but Alaska in the summer is something special. It's a trip you will NEVER forget. If you have extra time (10-14 days total) then a land trip to Denali is killer.
I would try: 1. Fly to ANC. AS and DL have routings via SEA. AA via DFW.
Then cruise from ANC to YVR.
For a luxury 5 star cruise, try Silversea. Everything (all booze, all wine everything) is included. All Suites. The boat we took had 150 people on it.
Pick a killer YVR hotel to stay at (Shangri La, Fairmont, Pan Pacific, 4 Seasons) then spend a day or 2 at Granville Island or better yet, the Vancouver Aquarium (the kids would love it).
Fly home on CX YVR-JFK (37,000 avios and $32). Can use AA miles as well.
You can do the reverse as well (ie: start in YVR and leave from ANC).
Another neat idea is the Tumbling River Ranch in Colorado http://www.tumblingriver.com/
Both of these have been our best vacations yet
These aren't Christmas Ideas but rather something outside the box.
Happy FEBRUARY 2013. We are 1/12th of the way through 2013. Will you be posting again this year?
Happy MARCH 2013. We are 1/6th of the way through 2013. Will you be posting again this year?
I'm looking for the trip report for your Christmas trip.
