A spontaneous trip where the journey is at least as important as the destination.

I'm in the midst of a super Aviation-geeky trip. I have a lot of vacation time to use, and quite a few United miles, so I decided to burn some of each.  After the Singapore Airlines excitement this past weekend, my United mileage balance is really low now!

I'm planning to fly on 3 new aircraft types for me.  My first flight on the 747-8i, A380 and 787.  I'm also finally going to spend some time in Japan, a place I've visited before, but only for layovers.  I'm going to stay in one of my 'dream' hotels, the Park Hyatt Tokyo.

This is a Star Alliance First Class award, with longhaul segments on Lufthansa on the 747-8i, A380, and A346, and Thai First Class on the 777-300ER leased from Jet Airways with the excellent suites.  I'm planning 2 visits to the Frankfurt Lufthansa First Class Terminal, and one visit to the Bangkok Thai First Class Lounge and Spa.  I also am going to have my first flight on the ANA 787, which I booked an economy domestic Japan award.
