Trip Report: Thai Airways Boeing 747 Business Class Tokyo to Bangkok

thai-airways-747-1410

If you haven't flown on Thai Airways before, here's one thing you should know about them. They switch out more airplanes on more routes than any other airline that I know. When I originally booked this trip, I specifically booked this leg to be on the Airbus A380. I had flown on the A380 in Royal First (first class) before and wanted to try out their new Royal Silk (business class) seats.

A couple months after I booked my ...

Lounge Review: Air China First Class Lounge at Beijing

air-china-first-class-lounge-7451

The Air China First Class Lounge at Beijing Capital Airport is located airside (after security) in terminal 3, near gate E20. It’s located on the second floor of the international terminal and is only available to first class passengers on Air China or Star Alliance flights and (surprisingly) Priority Pass members. I don’t know how Priority Pass scored this lounge but it’s one of the better lounges that Priority Pass members have access to. Star ...

Lounge Review: Emperor Lounge at Auckland

emperor-lounge-at-akl-1733

The Emperor lounge at Auckland International Airport is located airside (after security) past the duty free shops. Once you get past security and passport control, just follow the signs for “Premium Lounges” to the right of the stores. The entrance to the lounge will be on first floor (directly below the Air New Zealand Lounge).

The Emperor Lounge is open to Hawaiian Airlines and Malaysia Airlines premium cabin ...

Reader Poll: Should I do a Delta Mileage Run??

fairmont-singapore-view-2-1

So the guys over at the Flight Deal posted a great deal to Singapore yesterday. For $798, Delta was doing a sale to Singapore from LAX. Valid for travel between now and December 10, 2014, the trip would yield me 17,540 miles on a V class fare.

Looking at the dates, I wasn't able to find any dates at that price but I was able to find a flight for $850. Not as good as $798 but still not a bad price for 17,540 ...

Trip Report: Air China First Class Los Angeles to Beijing, Boeing 777-300ER

air-china-7350

Okay, so let’s address the obvious question. . . Why on earth would I want to fly Air China??? I know. I know. I must have heard that question a dozen times when I told people I was flying Air China to Beijing. Everyone warned me that Air China was a terrible airline and my flight would be miserable (even in first class). And their allegations were not baseless.

Reading through other Air China flight reviews, I found ...

Lounge Review: Air New Zealand Koru Club Lounge at LAX

air-new-zealand-lax-lounge-7365

I feel really bad for Air New Zealand premium cabin passengers. It's not because this is a horrible lounge. It's not. It's just that Air New Zealand also operates the new LAX Star Alliance Lounge. But for whatever reason, Air New Zealand is still operating out of terminal 2 and not out of the newly renovated Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) where the Star Alliance Lounge is located in. And because it is a pain in the butt to get to/from terminal 2 and the ...

Lounge Review: Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge at LAX

air-canada-lax-lounge-7367

The Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge at LAX is located in terminal 2, above gates 22 - 24.  Open to Priority Pass members, Air Canada business class passengers and Star Alliance Gold members, the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge at LAX is a step above any domestic North American airline lounge but falls short in comparison to international carrier lounges. The Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge at LAX is open from 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM ...

More Problems with Booking Air China Award Flights

It's a shame that Air China releases so many premium cabin award seats to their partner airlines yet booking those awards seats come with so many problems. Back in April, fellow UPGRD blogger, Matthew Klint, wrote a blog post on how CONFIRMED United Airlines award flights with Air China segments were being mysteriously cancelled and today, Lucky informed us about some more dire news regarding Air China bookings using Air Canada Aeroplan miles.

Good News for Star Alliance Gold and Priority Pass Members at LAX!

laxmap

So I'm not gonna lie, LAX is not the best airport. Okay, who am I kidding? It's a terrible airport. It's old, heavily congested, a pain to transit from one terminal to another and there are no convenient modes of public transportation (such as a railway) to get to/from LAX. Your only options for getting to the airport include buses, shuttles, taxis or driving yourself there and then parking your car in the ghetto. And heaven forbid if there's a major traffic ...

Air China First Class Video Preview

air-china-1048

I'm back from my trip around the Pacific rim! It was an amazing trip on some fantastic airlines and I can't wait to share of all my pictures with you guys. I took over 1000 pictures (90% of them are of airplanes) so there will be plenty to see. :-)

But I know you guys have been dying to see what Air China's "Forbidden Pavilion" first class cabin looks like so I edited some quick photos and created a video slide show for you ...

Using United Miles to Visit Japan and New Zealand

brace-yourself

Back in January (and before the great devaluation), my friend and I decided to use the last of our remaining United Airlines Mileage Plus miles for a trip to Japan and New Zealand. The all business class award redemption cost my friend 135,000 miles and my first/business class award cost me 147,500 miles. If we were to book these exact same trips now, his trip would cost him 160,000 and my trip would cost me 260,000 miles! How nuts is that?? Details on how we ...

aircanadamapleleafyullounge

There are three Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges at Montreal Trudeau Airport (Domestic, Trans-border and International). This review is for the Air Canada Maple Leaf Trans-border Lounge located airside near gate 75.

Open to Star Alliance premium class passengers, Star Alliance Gold card holders and Maple Leaf Club members, the Air Canada Maple Leaf Trans-border Lounge is small but offers a decent place to eat, relax and ...

Lufthansa Senator Lounge at Frankfurt (A, B and Z Gates)

lufthansasenatorlounge-26

Lufthansa has some great ground services for first class passengers but those services are only offered to first class passengers flying on Lufthansa or Swiss Air operated flights. Because I was flying Asiana Airlines first class from Frankfurt to Seoul, I wasn't granted access to the Frankfurt First Class Terminal or any of the First Class lounges.

Lufthansa has three levels of lounges, First Class, Senator and Business ...

Situated along the Yangtze River in East China, Shanghai is a major metropolitan city with high-rise commercial buildings, beautiful architecture and an amazing skyline that rivals the likes of New York and Chicago.

The Westin Bund Center is located in the heart of downtown Shanghai and is two blocks away from the Bund, a ...
