It looks as if AA is having more problems than previously thought, although certainly not on par with US.  The Financial Times and Tulsa World are reporting that AA will be shutting down its Kansas City maintenance base and eliminating 700 jobs.

US Airways announced series of cutbacks today as it faces stiff competition and dwindling demand during this troubled time in the airline industry:

-Cutback of 1,000 employees (~600 airport, ~200 pilot, and ~150 FA)

-Abandoning Las Vegas as a focus city by cutting down flights by 50% (again) in Feb 2010

-Closing Colorado Springs and Wichita stations

-Suspending service from Philadelphia to Birmingham (UK), London Gatwick, Milan, Shannon, and Stockholm ...

I'm up to nearly 200,000 EQMs this year on United and have some domestic trips in paid First Class coming up next month. With more than enough miles to qualify for elite status for 2010,  I am having trouble deciding whether to credit my miles to United or to re-qualify for Gold status on British Midland.
