Matthew live and let's fly

Last week I posted my thoughts about airline mistake fares in response to Scott McCartney's excellent "Middle Seat" column in the Wall Street Journal on the same subject. Today, Christopher Elliott decided to chime in. While I prefer not not even bring up his name, he provides so much fodder in his thoughts on the subject that I would be remiss for not addressing them.

If you found a bargain airfare, you’d book it, right?

But what if you knew the price was a ...

More details have emerged about what exactly happened on my diverted United flight to Omaha:

Charges filed Tuesday in federal district court in Nebraska identify the woman as Maria Rita Manzoni. Authorities seek to formally charge her with interfering with a flight crew and its attendants after she allegedly began screaming of other passengers’ terrorist plots and had to be restrained by flight attendants and passengers.

Thanks to the brilliant minds at airfarewatchdog.com, the fuel dump is no more.

For those unaware of what a "fuel dump" is, it is removing the fuel surcharge from a fare--often more than $200-300.

My IAD-MSY upgrade cleared about 48 hours prior to departure, but my MSY-LAX upgrade remained waitlisted.

As usual, I left my home in PHL with just enough time to walk to 30th St Station and catch a train to the airport. I've ...
