It appears that United is in the midst is shuffling their routes and my April trip to Buenos Airies now departs from Newark instead of Washington, DC.   It appears that United is abandoning the route from Dulles. 

It appears the changes goes into effect in April.

I've been sitting back and watching the fallout from the rumored changes to Mileage Plus the last few weeks and the response from some folks has just been staggering.  

First, I believe the rumored changes are false.   The one thing United has demonstrated in their merger so far is that they are not undertaking any drastic changes as their plates are pretty full.   To impelement the list of changes is substantial and would go away from that ...

In traditional United fashion, a plethora of "good" news is following the leak of upcoming Mileage Plus enhancements.

The highlights:

  • The 767-200s and Domestic 767-300s are being coverted to with the new BusinessFirst seat.
  • Economy Plus is rolling out on the 767-400, the first one will return to service this fall will include the new BusinessFirst seats as well as Economy Plus. 
  • First class and Economy Plus is being added to all Q400s
  • Channel 9 is coming to the Continental fleet, the first of which will be the first 767-400 that returns to service in the fall.
  • Bigger overhead bins on the AIrbus 319 and 320s.
  • Streaming in-flight video and WiFi on the 747-400s.
  • And the long awaited P.S. annoncement, which will now be two cabin with 26 of the new BusinessFirst seat and also introducing standard Economy into these planes along with the existing Economy Plus.

In the latest earning call, United announced that they are bringing Economy Plus and First Class to Bombardier Q400 planes.

While one may wonder why they are putting first class on a prop plane, it does actually make sense.   Currently, the Q400s fly for Continental and a large number of them are based at Newark.   As many folks know Newark is known for it's ATC delays, along with it's other NYC area counterparts.  The regional carriers are generally the first ...

If this page is any indication of what the future holds, then we'll see the return of United's 500 mile certificates.

In reality, it's likely an aged page that was never removed.  Unfortunately .bomb is cluttered with these types of items which makes getting reliable information a challenge.  Take for instance Connoisseur Class.  United renamed it close to ten years ago, yet the electronic receipts still reflect the old name.

Since the merger between Continental and United there has been rampant speculation as to which reservation system will survive.  United currently uses a system called Apollo which is hosted by Amadeus.   Meanwhile Continental uses an in-house system called Shares. 

In this article from Travel Weekly is reporting that United has terminated its agreement with Amadeus to move to the new Altea platform and has decided to standardize on Shares.
