Weekend In Charlotte: Renaissance Suites Charlotte Airport

And now before I go on another jam packed trip, time to complete the hotel reviews from my trip at the beginning of May.  One interesting note is that this property is the first Renaissance Suites in the world.  This is actually a fairly short review, since I wanted to get in, get to sleep, and then get home the next day so I did not spend as much time taking in the whole experience of the property.

Check-In

I arrived shortly after 1am, after another long day.  While check-in was smooth and easy, there was one major omission, they never mentioned anything about my Gold status with Marriott, which includes breakfast, if not an upgrade to the executive level.  Unfortunately it was late and I just wanted to go to sleep so I did not realize this until I woke up in the morning.

The Room

The best way to describe the room is a nice warm Embassy Suites room.  In fact, if it was not for the check-in desk and the sineage outside, I would have genuinely confused this property with an Embassy Suites.  Same room layout, same general hotel design, and same general amenities.  Have a look for yourself:

And for the bed:

The bathroom is real nice with Aveda bath amenities, the exact same ones as Hotel Indigo (just so they can really try and play up the hip but not out of reach)

The Area

This is one area where the hotel completely fails if you want to do anything outside of the hotel.  It is isolated completely in the back of an office park, and a long way from just about anything.  It has poor connectivity to the city of Charlotte, and is really only good for if you need to catch some sleep either before or after a flight out of CLT.  It is within 2 miles of the airport, however it is not near any interstate, though along one of the many highways that cuts between I-85 and I-77 on the southeast side of Charlotte.

Check-Out

I will say that here my status was mentioned, and I was finally thanked for the first time for being a Gold member.  The guys working the desks this morning were extremely helpful, and honestly made me feel that I might give Renaissance another shot in the future, just not at this property because of its horrible location (and the fact that I generally try to avoid flying US in general)

Summary

Nice facility, great potential, but horrible location, and lack of elite recognition even in a late check-in give me major reservations about this property.
