As I connected through IAH on my way to MSY last weekend, I ended up catching a few sights that are quite worth a look if you have the opportunity to experience the pier of the E concourse closest to Concourse C.
First up is one of the self-boarding gates they are testing out there. Unfortunately, the gate was not active, however I was able to at least get a good look at the gate.
I actually like having the self-boarding setup, especially if they use it to enforce zoned boarding. This way the line cutters are blocked from actually getting on the plane before they are supposed to, and instead have to wait for their proper time. This bad boarding behavior has been encouraged for years by agents who just decide to let them on instead of turning them back. While there is still the option to board with the agent for now, this is the way of the future.
Second sight is a model of the interior of the 787.
It is nice that they show off the windows, bins and mood lighting, however my only complaint is that they are not using this as an opportunity to show off some of the seating. While economy is not exciting, they could use this to show off the BusinessFirst Suite, and encourage travelers into the premium experience.
All of this is in addition to the Continental Airlines history display at gate D3 at MSY.
