An eligible stay is defined as one or more consecutive nights paying a qualifying rate in the same hotel regardless of the number of check-ins or checkouts that occur and post to the member's SPG account. Eligible stays/nights will be tracked by date member checks in and not the date the member checks out. A qualifying rate is any rate that is eligible to earn Starpoints in the Starwood Preferred Guest program. Multiple rooms charged to the same member during the same stay will only count as one stay.

I’ve done some rough estimates based on my normal travel and I’m leaning towards Double StarPoints.  I (ok my company) spend a good amount of money at SPG hotels every week, so by my calculations this is one of the best offers for me.  I will definitely NOT be selecting the Merchandise Discounts or Elite Night Credit.  The last thing I want is hotel brand merchandise at my house.  And I easily make elite status on stays, not nights by mid-year.  Once you start doing the math you will see some of these offers are void of real value.  Fortunately, there are enough good ones that savvy SPG members can play the system to their advantage and come out ahead.

Do you know whether Multiple rooms charged to the same member on the same night will count as one night or multiple nights?

I know this is the same question Nikki asked. Do multiple rooms booked to the same person for one night count as multiple nights (not stays)?
