Marriott MegaBonus Promotion

Marriott Rewards has announced its first promotion of 2012.  This promotion is far less generous than the one mentioned by Kevin SPG Q1 Promo: 2x and 3x Points, Discourages Hotel Hopping.

MegasBonus 2012 Details:

  • After two paid stays, earn a free night- up to two nights
  • Register by March 31, 2012
  • To qualify you must stay consecutive nights at a participating hotel between February 1, 2012 and April 30, 2012
  • Free nights are redeemable until September 30, 2012 at any category 1-4 hotel

Ironically yesterday I received a letter from Marriott offering me complimentary Platinum status for 2012, even though I was 50 days short of qualifying.  I guess it will come in handy for this one promotion, then back to my beloved SPG.

Jamie- Any idea how you managed to get the comped Marriott Platinum offer? Do you have a history with Marriott?

I was platinum at Marriott the last two years so I think they are trying to get me to come back.

Jamie, I'm not sure whether it was a targeted program, but the Marriott Rewards Megamiles program that was offered late 2011, offers 2,000 miles for each stay starting with the 2nd stay, up to 50,000 miles from 1/1/12 to 4/30/12. So no complaint there, right? In fact, I don't understand how Marriott pulls this off. Including a similar program for Q4 2011, I will bank a total of 80,000 UA Miles in 7 months from Marriott alone. Please explain your complaint again??

Not sure about your post. Marriott MegaMiles promotion for Jan-Apr 2012 offers 2,000 miles beginning with 2nd stay up to 50,000 miles for the 1st 4 mos. of 2012. Added to the 30,000 miles I made on similar program for Q4 2011, I will total 80,000 UA miles in 7 mos. Please restate your complaint.

Jeff- I'm not clear on the program you speak of with mile values. I was posting about a Marriott promotion for Rewards members that has no association with another partner program, etc. I'm not a United flyer so I have no knowledge of that promotion. I can speak to this promotion relative to other hotel chain Q1 promotions. This one has a maximum reward of 2 free days. That is far less than what Starwood is offering Q1. I earned 7 free nights last year on a similar Starwood promotion, but they didn't have free night limits or hotel category restrictions. I redeemed those free nights at a 5-star St. Regis. The best I could get at a category 4 Marriott hotel would be a subpar Marriott.
