So far, the term "disappointing" has been pretty prevalent with the merger between United & Continental. From changing the benefits for everybody from Premier members to Million Mile Fliers, it has been expected that there would be more cuts to the COmbined carrier.
Several months ago, I redeemed miles for a one-way ticket on Virgin Atlantic, in Upper Class, from London-Heathrow to Vancouver. I was delighted to be able to use some of my Continental miles, as VS had never been a partner with United. With my booking confirmed, I was looking forward to flying about VS, and trying out their main lounge at London-Heathrow, the Club House.
A little over a month ago, I started to see reports on FlyerTalk that mentioned the issues with finding award space on VS. Some people were able to find it on routes such as LHR-NYC, but searching for space on flights to China or South Africa were returning no results. As usual, the rumors starting flying on FT that the partnership was ending. Although, with no official confirmation from United, we were left in suspense. Unfortunately, we've now received the answer that many of us were dreading.
Effective February 13, 2012 we will discontinue our OnePass partnership with Virgin Atlantic. Mileage accrual benefits are valid for travel through February 13, 2012. Please refer to the Mileage Credit Request Form for information regarding obtaining missing mileage credit. OnePass reward reservations for travel on Virgin Atlantic must be confirmed and ticketed by February 13, 2012, and they are valid one year from the date ticketed.
Keep your seatbelts fastened, as it seems that the worst has yet to come.
