Alaska Airlines hasn’t announced it yet, but a little bird told me that Alaska Airline will be launching its 2nd Hawaiian destination from Bellingham (BLI) to Kahului, Maui (OGG) this autumn! The proposed schedule is to launch its first flight to Maui on a Boeing 737-800 with 16 Business Class Seats and 141 seats in Economy. The flight numbers will be AS807/808 and will depart Bellingham daily at 11am arriving into OGG at 3:20pm. The return flight will leave at 3pm and arrive back in Bellingham at 1055 the same evening. If my informant is correct flights will be 3x 4x a week in each direction, departing BLI Monday, Thursday, and Saturday Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday and departing Maui back for BLI on Wednesday, Friday, Sunday Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday The first flight will depart BLI on Nov 8 and the schedule is to run through April 13.
When Alaska officially announces this route tomorrow expect to see ROCKBOTTOM prices! When AS started BLI-HNL service in 2011 airfare was offered at $149 each way, making it one of the cheapest ways to get to Hawaii from the West Coast! Also be aware that Allegiant is also starting Hawaii Service from Hawaii, expanding on its Vegas and Fresno California Service. Allegiant Air will be offering 1x weekly service to both Honolulu (HNL) on November 15 and Kahului (OGG) starting Nov 14. With two carriers offering discounted fares on these routes expect airfare to stay low! Furthermore, don’t be surprise if you see WestJet and Air Canada matching some of these fares from Vancouver. However, buyers beware! Canada has very steep immigration fee so the 45 minute drive to Bellingham may be well worth it even if these Canadian carriers match the fares!
Alaska Air is expected to announce this new route officially tomorrow (6/27 – remember I’m writing from the west coast) and airfare should go on sale the same day!
I just did a quick BLI-OGG search and currently my only options show a 1-stop connection with airfare averaging ~$600 round trip! I’m excited to see what’s revealed tomorrow!
