Leap Day Upgrade

My last day of being Platinum Medallion left me with a very nice fair well. Another upgrade 6 days before departure! I wrote about this earleir in the week and I thought for sure my upgrade to Vegas next week was my last upgrade I would ever see 6 days out. But Nope, I was wrong. Today it happened again! Thanks Delta for letting me enjoy my Platinum Status ONE last time!

Now to bad this is just a short hour flight (40 mins in the air) and not a cross country Jaunt!

What? I can't Hear you Virgin

How many times have you been flying and the flight attendant came by and asked you for your drink order and you felt like you had to scream at them? Often times while flying, I find myself responding to the flight attendance questions, and then repeating myself because they cannot hear me over the airplane noise. Although, I am more often than not seated in the forward cabin, a quieter section of the aircraft, I find myself repeating myself a number of times on any ...

My Last 6 day Upgrade

Sunday Evening I  received an email from Delta informing me that my complimentary Medallion upgrade was confirmed. Being an elite flyer with Delta/NWA for many years, I'm accustomed to receiving these emails anywhere from 1 hour to 5 days before my flight. However This time I received my upgrade 6 days before my flight! Not only is this generous but it's an entire day earlier then I expected!

787 still a NO go for Qantas

Earlier this month Qantas announced they were delaying entry of the 787 from 2012 to a further date. No one was certain of that date at this time and it was questionable if the 787 deliveries were actually going to happen. Qantas is under going some major restructuring, dropping routes (including MAJOR routes such as the kangaroo route, syd-hkg-lon/lon-sin-hgk at a later date), retiring older aircraft, maximizing profits from the A380, reducing the ...

Mexicana to fly again!

After suspending all flights and operations in August of 2010 it looks like Mexicana is going to try to fly again in April! Mexicana was Mexico's largest airline when it came to international passengers traveling to and from Mexico, but hit a few bumps and declared bankruptcy in 2010. Since August, a number of investors have been interested in revitalizing Mexicana but up until now have not had any luck! Even in 2010 there were rumors that rescue bids were ...

Trip Report: Delta JFK - LAX Econ Comfort

The new Delta Economy Comfort isn’t anything that great! Sure it’s a few more inches of leg room but other than that it is absolutely nothing to write home about. Other Airlines have had “plus” style seating for years. This includes Jet Blue, United, Virgin America, and a number of international airlines. Some airlines only have these plus seats in the bulkhead or exit rows, whereas other airlines like Jetblue and United reserve several rows in the first rows of ...

Cebu Pacific is Getting Serious

Earlier this Month Cebu Pacific announced plans to start up long haul operations in 2013. They initially stated they are aiming to start flights to the USA and Europe and take on a model Very similar to Air Asia X. Cebu pacific is the Philippines' LARGEST airlines with the tiny 37 aircraft in operation. Per their In flight Magazine, As of Feb 1, 2012 Cebu Pacific Operates the following aircraft

Korean Are Prestige Lounge Seoul

I was fortunate enough this morning to fly into Inchon Seoul International Airport this morning at 4am and be the VERY first person and ONLY person for about 30 minutes in the Prestige Lounge. The Lounge has undergone a very large expansion in the last year and has added 160 seats, a dinning room, and a sleeping room and powder room for FEMALE travelers ONLY. These new additions in 2011 have nearly doubled the lounge in size. I will state that I am VERY happy to see what Korean ...

Qantas No 787s for now

Qantas has been having difficulties in the market downunder for some time now and their competition from Virgin has increased significantly, especially this year since Virgin has moved from a LCC scheme to a full service airline and is now offering business class travel domestically. However today Qantas announced a number of changes to their schedule and have even decided to postpone delivery of 15 Dreamliner 787 that will supposed to all be delivered in 2012! Skeptic ...

SAN Finally goes Nonstop across the Pacific

San Diego is FINALLY getting a direct flight to Asia! That's right you heard me right! After many years of one stop service to Asia, San Diego will Finally be served by JAL flight to Japan! And to make this news even better, JAL is deploying the 787 on this route! So this is a double win for San Diego Travelers! Starting in December 2012 JAL will serve San Diego 4x a week, departing for Japan on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays. Come March 2013, JAL plans on increasing this to ...

Trip Report: Cebu Pacific mnl-ceb

This is what a $25 plane ticket will buy you in the philippines. This morning I had the opportunity to fly Cebu Pacific, another Filipino LCC. Like airphil express Cebu Pacific flys from Manila Ninoy international airport terminal 3. I won't go into details about terminal 3, for I just wrote about it last week, and you can read about it here

Upon arriving for my 530am flight at 445, terminal 3 was already hopping. I found the checking area specific to flights to Cebu ...

OpenSkies No longer mean Business

OpenSkies airline has had a very turbulent and interesting history since 2008 when they merged with L'Avion. Being a "business class" style airline, the airline originally offered 3 classes of service, Business, Premium Economy, and just a few rows of Economy in the VERY back of the plane. Their 757s flew only transatlantic flights and covered business heavy routes such as JFK-Paris, JFK- Amsterdam, Washington DC - Paris. In recent years OpenSkies slowed ...

Korean Air ICN - MNL Prestige class

After a short lay over in Inchon and a quick visit to the Korean Air Prestige Lounge it was time to board my flight. By the time I arrived at my gate 10 the Boeing 777 bound for Manila was already 1/2 through boarding and there was no one in line at the first class/business class gate. The great part about Inchon airport is economy and sky team elite have one boarding door and First, Business, and Sky Team Elite Plus have a separate boarding door. Unlike most US airports where it's the ...

When It Rains We Don't Fly

This morning we arrived at the Legaspi airport after a wonderful weekend of whale shark spotting and firefly watching. After a sunny and beautiful weekend the heavens opened up and it started raining cats and dogs! Upon checking the airport was a zoo because the 8am flight by air Philippines had taken off but the Cebu Pacific 9:10 flight  was canceled because the  aircraft couldn't land in the rain! I laughed at this for what airline couldn't land in a little bit of rain?

Trip Report: Airphil Express

Airphil express....Its the Philippines southwest

Flying domestically in the Philippines provides you with quick and fast transport to thousands of tropical destinations across 7000 islands. Needless to say there are not airports on all 7000 islands, yet a 1-2 hour plane ride gets you far from the hustle and bustle of Manila and deposits you in remote paradises.

Manila international airport has 3 terminal. Airphil ...

Korean Air trip Review LAX - ICN

 Korean Air, Excellent in flight?
Tonight was my first flight in Korean Air’s Business class, what they dub Prestige. The Flight KE 12: Los Angeles (LAX) to Seoul Inchon’s international Airport (ICN). Upon arriving at LAX everything from check in to boarding was extremely pleasant.  KE must have at least 20 agents stationed at LAX to help check passengers in and yet at 10pm, 2 hours before flight time there was not a ...

A380/B787 Problems

The A380 has been flying for a few years now and the B787 program finally was launched recently, but both have been plagued with problems! The A380 was initially delayed a couple of years and the same story with the B787. If that's not bad enough ANA has been having difficulties with launching the B787 on long haul flights. Twice this week the B787 had software glitches and a B777 replaced the B787 on ANA's new route from Tokyo's HND to ANA's partner's ...

Kayak.com Adding New Features

Kayak.com has been my favorite travel site for years! In fact I've been using it since I first started traveling when I was 18! Why do I love kayak? It searches almost EVERY site out there (Orbitz, expedia, Vayma, booking buddy, all the airline pages and more). The only draw back is it doesn't search Southwest, Allegiant or USA 3000, however I almost NEVER fly these guys and kayak at least shows southwest airline schedule and will link you to SWA.com. Recently Kayak has been going under ...
