United, Continental Are Expected to Announce Merger on MONDAY?

According to the Wall Street Journal, Monday could be the day that United and Continental make the announcement that they will merge.

This article at WSJ.com reports,

"Continental Airlines Inc. and URAL Corp.'s United Airlines are expected to announce Monday that they are merging to form the world's largest airline by passengers carried, people familiar with the matter said."

This could all change if talks break down this weekend, but according to the report both CO and UA boards will work out all the details this weekend.. and come Monday the new UNITED airlines will be on the way to become the worlds largest airline.

This WSJ.com report what has been rumored for about a year, this new company will be called UNITED Airlines.. and Jeff Smisek will be the CEO ..

"Continental already has agreed in theory to allow the combined airline to be based in Chicago, United's home base, and to retain the United name, according to those people familiar with the matter.

Jeff Smisek, Continental's chief executive officer, would become CEO of the merged carrier; Glenn Tilton, UAL's CEO, would become non-executive chairman for two years, after which Mr. Smisek would take over that role too, those people familiar with the matter said."

A source tells me that OnePass could be the new FF program of this new UNITED airlines. ??

So lets see what happens on Monday.. UNIENTAL could happen real quick.. sorry US Airways..
