UA Sends email with a choice of "goodwill" for IFE turned off on flight

Here is a copy of an email UNITED sent to passengers of UA900 for not having the IFE turned on. The funny thing is that UA900 was SFO-FRA and the IFE with Maps were on for the full flight. There was a missed approach coming into FRA, but the letter states the goodwill was for having the IFE system turned off. The offer was $200 E-cert/ or paper, 10% off Y ticket on UA, or 9,000 miles. It is good to see that UA is sending these emails with goodwill out. I hope the flights that did not have IFE also got the emails. Lets hope UA gets the software updated so the Maps can be removed from the IFE, so we can make the TSA and FAA happy with these new dumb rules.

Dear Mr XXXX,

On behalf of United Airlines, we deeply regret the inconvenience you experienced due to the lack of a working in-flight entertainment system on flight 900 on December 26th.

In order to comply with a new TSA security procedure and operate your scheduled flight, United disabled the entertainment system on some of our flights. We recognize this may have presented a disappointing travel experience and may impact your overall perception of our operation. Your comfort and enjoyment are very important to United. Your support and understanding are appreciated.

Whether in the air or on the ground, our priority is keeping our customers and our people safe. And while safety is at the core of our business and the foundation of everything we do, we are equally committed to service. We would like to offer you a gesture of goodwill in recognition of your patience while we complied with the new TSA security procedures. Thanks again for your patience and understanding during this directive and we look forward to seeing you on another United flight in the near future.

Sincerely,

Paul

Makes me wish I was flying on UA to London tomorrow instead of Air Canada!

Why are so many people mad at the airlines and not the TSA or the President or your Senators or your Representatives? They can't give miles and other perks that the airlines can but if the point of the exercise is to make TSA more effective and efficient then I would think these people should also be in the loop.

Damian: Couldn't find your e-mail (is it damian@upgrd.com ?) so I thought I'd leave a comment here. I have an 8-hour layover in FRA tomorrow. You busy? We could meet up for lunch in Frankfurt or I could take a train out to Wiesbaden. No pressure.
