I Miss Frankfurt Airport as My Neighbor

After 5 years living in Germany, I have recently moved to Northern England and this would be the reason for my lack of posting here on UPGRD. Now that life is getting back to normal, I have all my stuff and most importantly I have started to travel and plan to travel again.

After living just 15 min away from Frankfurt airport for 5 years, I now realize how nice and lucky that is for a person who loves to fly and travel. Over that time I was able to fly only on Star Alliance carriers most with Lufthansa and UNITED. Earning 1K with UNITED for the past 4 years. Enjoying the 99 euro round trip flights in Europe from Lufthansa for my personal travels and the contracts that UNITED and Lufthansa had with my company to get me to most locations in the United States. Not to mention the fact that I had the largest Star Hub to burn reward miles and get almost anyplace in the world.

Now well things have changed, and big time! my new home airport is Leeds Bradford International (LBA) in Northern Yorkshire England. Home and hub for JET2 airlines.. I can not give any info on them yet, but I’m told they are much better then RYANAIR, then again that is not saying much. My Star Alliance choices are depressing out of LBA, bmi offers non-stop service to Brussels, Edinburgh, Glasgow-International these flights are operated by bmi regional with ERJ 135 and 145. So for me to really get anyplace in the world with Star I have to use Manchester International (MAN) were SWISS, Lufthansa, bmi, Brussels, SAS, TAP, Singapore, Turkish, US Airways, and Continental fly year round and seasonal service is offered by Austrian, Adria, and Croatian. Sadly MAN airport is about 2 hours by train or car from my new house.

bmi_man So far I have flown out of MAN once and headed back to Frankfurt to see some friends and take care of some loose ends. I booked with bmi and the flight was listed as bmi 3357 marketed by Lufthansa operated by bmi. The flight was a Lufthansa flight with a true Lufthansa flight number, however it was operated by bmi with Lufthansa onboard service, Lufthansa Magazines and LH ground crews. The on board crews were bmi crew but they announced the flight as a LH flight operated by bmi. All the onboard signs and notices were in both English and German. LH is using bmi to operate some of its flights from FRA, TXL and MXP to the UK. It was a very nice flight. The miles for this flight posted as it was a LH flight

I will be back to posting about my travels in Europe and the US, still flying mostly with Star, and staying with Hilton and Hyatt. I have also had a recent experience with the UK rail service, and sadly have some more trips with them booked.

Well, you've got SQ serving MAN-MUC now! That sounds like a fun way to get back to Germany!
