Eyjafjallajökull got me again! Ash over Munich.

It was a very nice and sunny day today in the German and Austrian Alps. I flew down from Frankfurt on Friday and was to fly back today from Munich. As I was pulling up to the Munich Airport I could tell something was wrong.. Lots of parked aircraft, and no movement, I pulled out my Iphone and checked out Lufthansa.com to see that Munich was closed due to ASH.. along with Stuttgart all Austrian airports and airports in northern Italy. I parked my rental car (did not return it thinking I might ...

Mileage Run Gone Wrong! Thanks Eyjafjallajökull

So I do international mileage runs from my home base of Frankfurt all the time.. well this time.. I’m stuck, stranded, and out of pocket.. I did get a real good deal FRA-BWI on Air Canada for ~$450.00 USD with the following routing last Thursday FRA-YUL / YUL-YYZ / YYZ-BWI. It was a very good flight over the ocean but about 2 hours into the flight we made a sharp turn at 40,000 ft. The Maps were no longer working, then the first officer told us that the Volcano in Iceland just blew ...

Bumped to Bosnia

I’m blogging from the Lufthansa SEN lounge in Munich.. Today started early to get my 0650 flight from FRA to MUC on LH. Got to Munich and walked right to the SEN lounge, welcomed by a very nice LH lounge agent… I asked her to take a look at our seats for our Lufthansa CityLine flight to SJJ Sarajevo wanted to know if my UA*G status would block the middle seat. She told me the flight is full.. Oh my! Sir! the flight is oversold by many people. Me like a kid said,…. ...

Blue1 (KF) mini-trip Report to Kittilä Finland on UA reward ticket

Thanks to a UNITED reward ticket for 25,000 miles I was able to fly up to Northern Finland for a week of fun in the Snow. Got to fly Blue1 a part of the SAS group and also a member of the Star Alliance. When booking this reward ticket I had a hard time getting multiple United agents to book a reward on Blue1 as a part of a Star reward, they kept telling me that Blue1 was a partner but not part of the Star Alliance. After 4 or 5 calls got an agent to look Blue1 up.. and she said, “our ...

Hello Hyatt & Thanks for the status match!

A few weeks back I traveled to Belgrade , Serbia and when looking for a hotel I noticed there was not many 4 or 5 star international chains in the city. There is a Holiday Inn, but the reviews were not too favorable and the location was not the best. I did find some small hotels with good reviews in good locations, but the Hyatt Regency Belgrade was getting the best reviews but also the highest rates. So I joined Hyatt Gold Passport and emailed them for a status match from my Hilton Diamond ...

UA Sends email with a choice of "goodwill" for IFE turned off on flight

Here is a copy of an email UNITED sent to passengers of UA900 for not having the IFE turned on. The funny thing is that UA900 was SFO-FRA and the IFE with Maps were on for the full flight. There was a missed approach coming into FRA, but the letter states the goodwill was for having the IFE system turned off. The offer was $200 E-cert/ or paper, 10% off Y ticket on UA, or 9,000 miles. It is good to see that UA is sending these emails with goodwill out. I hope the flights that did not ...

Lufthansa sends some big birds to London, looks like it paid off!

Today a Lufthansa A340-600 was at LHR performing LH4724/4725 from FRA-LHR and back. Normally an A321 runs the FRA-LHR route. Tomorrow a B747 will be heading to LHR. All this was done announced a week or so ago when BA was going to strike. But from what I’m told this could have not worked out better for LH, with all the weather problems in London and in Europe BA was over booked on most London – Main Land Europe flights. To make matters worse the EuroStar service has been down for ...

Princess Cruise Report - Adriatic and Egypt Cruise Nov 2009

Last year I did my first cruise and I’m well on the way to becoming addicted to it, as my second cruise I really started to get to know the perks of cruising. Princess Cruise line is the line that I have picked and I’m please with their product.

This cruise started in Rome (Civitavecchia) and I had to deal with FCO airport. And I have to say It has to be one of the worst capital city airports in Europe. I hate it, dirty, crap service and painfully long waiting for ...

Hilton will be alone in devaluing loyalty program in 2010!

As I posted on Nov 4th and many Hilton guest already know, Hilton will be devaluing the Hilton Honors program in 2010. More

Other hotel chains are now saying they will NOT follow Hilton and were very harsh in the wording they used, when asked about the Hilton chain.  Mostly InterContinental Group really ripped Hilton a new one. It would be nice to see Hilton change their mind.. but I do not think that will happen!

"We are not making changes that would ...

Think about flying to the top of the world this Winter.

Winter time is coming, why not be crazy and go to the northern most commercial airport in the world. (LYR) Svalbard Airport, Longyear. In 2008, the airport had 138,934 passengers, up 7.4% from 2007.  SAS Scandinavian Airlines daily flights to Tromsø and Oslo on mainland Norway.  Last year in February I decided to use my  miles to get a within Europe reward ticket for 20,000 miles (now would be 25,000) to fly up to the top of the world. This was the best miles I have ever ...
