The New Turkish Airlines Lounge in Istanbul

Hello from the Turkish Airline Lounge in Istanbul Turkey (IST). This lounge is very cool, and here are some photos. As a Star Gold having access to lounges like this is so nice.

This lounge has a Kids area with video game, pool table, books, and more.. showers and Suites for a nap. The bathroom is very clean and modern. Made to order food items, coffee and Tea bar service. Just one kick ass lounge.. This place makes the UNITED clubs look like a homeless shelter.

You can see even more photos of the Turkish Airlines Istanbul Lounge as well.

Winter Time Sales for Hilton Family!

Just got word that Hilton Family Hotels will be having 2 winter time sales this year. They will be called the “December Sale” and the return of the “Any Weekend Anywhere” sale.

I’m told the Dec sale will start very soon and will cover stays into early Jan 2012. Then in Jan Hilton will kick off the Any Weekend Anywhere sale like last year, giving deep discounts upto 50% off on weekend nights for all of 2012. These will be prepaid rates that can be booked in Jan 2012.

More details to come soon, so you might want to think twice about booking any prepaid rates for Dec or weekend nights in 2012.

Flying for Status on US Airways in Envoy. (Part 1)

I just finished a mileage run to make UNITED 1K for next year. I was lucky to find a very good Business/First class fare on US Airways from Manchester, UK (MAN) to Seattle (SEA). I departed MAN on Friday on the MAN-PHL flight on a A330-300 in Envoy, followed by PHL-PHX on a A321 in First, and finally PHX-SEA on a A320 also in First.

When I booked this I was thinking how bad can it be? The last time I was on US Airways was back in 2000 on an old and run down B767 in Economy and ...

Doubletree by Hilton Seattle Airport - Good pick for Hilton VIP's

This could be my favorite hotel in the US, as I live in Europe I do not experience many US hotels. I have been a guest at the DoubleTree at SEA airport over 10 times now, and I have to say consistency is this hotels best trait and over the past 4 years I have been impressed with seeing the same staff over and over, the same and very good diamond VIP treatment and just overall room quality. The only thing this hotel needs is an executive lounge and it would be ...

Lufthansa is growing in Berlin

This week Lufthansa announced that they will be growing in Berlin! The current service from Berlin on Lufthansa is mostly domestic routes, with other European being served by Star Alliance partners. This will all happen when the capital of Germany welcomes the new airport “BER” Berlin Brandenburg Airport 'Willy Brandt'. Lufthansa will start 30 new destinations from summer 2012. Lufthansa's Berlin fleet is set to grow from nine to 15 aircraft all Airbus, mostly A319 from the failed ...

So far impressed with US Airways today.

Hello from US 191 PHL-PHX, today is my first trip on US Airways in many years. I got a real good fare for R/T Business class from Manchester, UK to Seattle back in July for this weekend. A full review is coming but as I sit onboard this US Airways A321 with WiFi and so far very good service, I’m impressed! I do have to admit I had really low expectations. I will say the international meal was not bad at all, the crew was happy and funny.. but at times a little less professional then other airlines, the uniforms are a mess, I think one FA had a sweat outfit on with US Airways logos on it. The cabin of this A321 is very new and in good condition. The boarding process in PHL was something that needs help and the ground crew were just lackluster. There was a no-show in the F cabin and the head FA wanted to know who was next for the upgrade and the ground crew just did not want to deal with it. Good on this FA for making them find out and do their job.

Is Priority Club Platinum Status a Joke? I think so.

I got status matched to Priority Club Platinum from my Hilton Diamond Status a few weeks back. Tonight is my first stay in an IHG hotel, a Crowne Plaza in the UK.

All I can say is how can people be loyal to this program? What the hell do you get from being a Platinum? I’m currently top tier with Hilton and Hyatt; I have been top with Starwood in the past. So I have become used to great upgrades, free internet, Free Breakfast at Hilton and Hyatt, welcome amenities and ...

The LOT Polish airlines B767 that “crash” landed in Warsaw yesterday, skid down the runway on its belly, coming to a stop at the intersection of both the runways in Warsaw closing the airport for more than 24 hours.

Sources say that bmi is in advanced discussions to sell bmi Regional to a U.K investor group previously associated with the regional business. The sale would be in the form of shares of bmi Regional, all assets used in the bmi Regional business including the aircraft fleet, the existing regional route network and the continued employment of the existing staff.

Sources say that transaction documents will be signed shortly and subject to achieving all regulatory approvals, the ...

LOT Polish Airlines Crash Lands in Warsaw - All 230+ people safe!

The LOT Polish airlines flight from Newark, New Jersey made what experts have described as a textbook crash landing, sliding on to a halt on its belly. Once stationary all four escape chutes deployed and passengers ran for safety as fire crews doused the engines.

I have flown on LOT Polish Airlines a bunch of times, even from Warsaw to the States and back once. Come to find out I was on this aircraft (SP-LPC) on my ORD-WAW flight.  People mock the Polish, and this ...

Hilton Garden Inn Dulles North - A Dependable Choice

Over the past 6 years I have flown out of IAD (Washington Dulles Airport) a lot. I have been a guest at many of the hotels around the airport. There is a good deal of choices and at times over the weekend at some good rates. When a promotion with some other brand is not running; I tend to stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Dulles North. This hotel is only a few years old.

I would start off with this, it is not a full service hotel but it gets the job done and treats ...

The Park Hyatt Milan - The best, for sure!

For my Mothers Birthday I treated her to a weekend in Milan. I was lucky to score a room at the Park Hyatt Milan, emailed the GM of the hotel asking if they could put some birthday related welcome amenity in the room. (I offered to pay) He quickly got back to me and said he would take care of it with with complements. When we arrived at the hotel around 10am our room was not yet ready the staff was very welcoming and wish my mother a Happy Birthday! They took my mobile phone number to call ...

Lufthansa Winter Schedule - A380 and New Routes

It is always good to keep up with new routes offered by Star Alliances member so I can better use my miles. Lufthansa is adding three new destinations this winter: Rio de Janeiro, Aberdeen and London Gatwick. Available capacity across the entire route network will be increased by 4% over last year. This growth is mainly because the use of larger aircraft types that have joined the Lufthansa fleet since last winter.

Another change is the deployment of an A380 from Frankfurt to ...

Sorry Sir Silver is not Elite

When you travel a lot you run into people that are just well a pain in the ass. Today at a Hilton in London there was a man who was yelling at the front desk agent, I’m Silver Elite! I should get an upgrade! The agent was very professional as the guy kept yelling at her in his Chicago Bears NFL jersey. (There is an NFL game today in London). She was trying to tell him that only Gold and Diamond members get upgraded and the hotel was oversold today due to an event in town and some ...

What the hell is going on here!?!? Hilton Reward Night Booking system gone nuts.

Here is a quick “tip” to look around for reward nights in the Hilton system. There is something going on with the reward points needed for a free night. Hilton just started the options to book “Premium” rooms with points. Many problems have been reported about not finding standard rooms any more at some high end Hiltons around the south pacific mostly. With the only rooms with reward nights were running well over 150,000 points per night. These hotels are a Hilton ...

Marriott Beijing City Wall - Best Marriott I Have Ever Been Too!

First off I’m not a Marriott guy at all, and I have only been to a few Marriott hotels around the world in the past five years, and have never really been impressed. The program and hotel offerings never really fit my travel pattern. Never the less, I was happy to be a guest at this new-er hotel in Beijing. It was booked in conjunction with a cruise from Singapore to Beijing with a land tour of China, this is the hotel that Princess Cruise Line used in Beijing. I was ...

The Hilton Manchester (UK) Deansgate - Disappointing

Well here we go again yet another Hilton in the UK that is just sub par. Is there any Hilton brand standard people that work in the UK? or is just bad Hilton's in the UK the standard?

This hotel is not as horrifying as the Hilton at the Manchester Airport, but still has some issues! I have a copy of the Hilton Brand Standards guide and this hotel is just blatantly doing what the hell they want. Closing the Executive Lounge at 8pm 7 days a week, not having a bed type choice in the ...
