Yesterday (August 10) I was on the 6AM SFO-ORD flight. UA has been using a 747 more and more often for this route, and I love the fact that I can get a mediocre sleep the night before, get to the airport, flatten out that seat, and sleep like a baby for a few extra hours, getting me into ORD pretty well rested. My upgrade cleared a few days in advance, and I didn't pay any attention to the seat map. I was QUITE surprised to get on the plane and see the old, crappy seats! WTF? How could this be? The 747 fleet has been "100% converted" to the new configuration.
I asked the FA, and she said that UA's loads have been so heavy that they had to bring this guy out of retirement from the Mohave Desert. You could tell this plane had not been updated in a long time... Old style wall carpets, a couple rips in the floor carpet, and a few overhead bins that wouldn't stay closed! While I was bummed to not get the new configuration, the flight attendants were some of the friendliest I've met, and I'm happy to see that UA is able to fill up those seats!

I'll be on this same bird Sunday. Still the biz seats on the old 747 are better than F seats on a domestic 757 or A319/320

Must be ORD or SFO. I don't think the old 744 is featured on any other routes.
