Just over a week ago, I asked if you were earning Expedia rewards. Expedia announced their own rewards program a few months back, and it allows you to earn one point per dollar spent on travel at Expedia, with a few exceptions. Most hotel stays booked on Expedia do not earn points at their respective chains, but nearly all of the airline tickets do. Thus, you can double dip. You can earn airline miles and Expedia points at the same time. When the program was first announced, you could start earning points, but they didn't tell us what we could use the points for. They've just annouced redemptions for hotel travel! They have a chart slider that you can use to redeem hotel coupons. For 3500 points, you can get a $25 coupon, valuing the points at less than once cent per point. If you save your points up, though, you can get a $1000 coupon for 50,000 points, putting the value of points at around 2 cents per point. I think this is great. This is basically free money. If their goal was to encourage people to use Expedia, it worked on me. I've purchased almost every flight since the announcement on Expedia, and I intend to keep doing so. I'll probably save up for a $1000 hotel coupon, and I think I'd like to redeem it at a place my normal hotel points won't get me - maybe some cool boutique hotel someplace!
